A tragic accident took place on Thursday in Kundawat village of Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, in which eight people who went down to clean the well died. The administration team reached the spot and so far six bodies have been taken out, while the rescue operation is on to search for two others.


How did the accident happen?

The villagers decided to clean the old well for the immersion of Gangaur Mata. Under this, first three villagers went down into the well, but after some time their voices stopped coming. Five other villagers also went down into the well to save them, but they also got stuck in the swamp and they also lost their lives.


Information of the accident and action of the administration

As soon as other people of the village came to know about this incident, they immediately informed the local police. As soon as the news of the accident was received, Chhaigaon Makhan and Pandhana police station police, ambulance and administrative officials reached the spot. Khandwa SP Manoj Kumar Rai, Collector Rishabh Gupta and SDM Bajrang Bahadur Singh started relief and rescue operations.


Did poisonous gas become the cause of the accident?

Initial investigation has revealed that poisonous gas was formed due to accumulation of swamp and garbage in the well, due to which this accident happened. Police, fire brigade and SDRF team carried out relief work and so far six bodies have been taken out.


Financial assistance to the families of the deceased

Khandwa Collector Rishabh Gupta expressed deep condolences over the accident and announced financial assistance of four lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased.

  • Arjun father Govind (35 years)
  • Gajanan father Gopal (35 years)
  • Mohan father Mansaram Patel (former sarpanch, 48 years)

  • Sharan father Sukhram (37 years)
  • Anil father Atmaram (25 years)

Growing concern about safety

This incident has once again exposed the lack of safety measures in rural areas. The administration and local bodies need to take special precautions in such cases and ensure proper safety measures so that such tragedies can be prevented in future.
