Lok Sabha Elections: The Election Commission has come into action mode regarding the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Issuing a major order on Tuesday, the Commission has transferred 8 District Magistrates and 12 Superintendents of Police (SP) in 5 states. These transfers have been made in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam and Andhra Pradesh. Earlier it was reported that the Commission has transferred 3 collectors and 6 IPS officers in Andhra Pradesh. However, by the evening this figure started increasing and the Commission has transferred many officers in 5 states.8 officers of Odisha government transferredThe Election Commission on Tuesday issued orders to transfer eight officers of the Odisha government, including two District Magistrates, five Superintendents of Police and an Inspector General of Police. The Commission has transferred DM of Cuttack and Jagat Singhpur, SP of Angul, Behrampur, Khurda and Rourkela and DSP and IG Central of Cuttack. Said in its order that these officers will be transferred to non-election related posts.Transfers in Bihar and other states alsoThe Election Commission has transferred DM and SP of Bhojpur and Nawada districts of Bihar and SP of Deoghar district of Jharkhand. Apart from this, DM of Krishna, Ananthapuramu and Tirupati districts in Andhra Pradesh has been changed. Apart from this, SPs of Prakasam, Palanadu, Chittoor, Ananthapuramu and Nellore have been transferred. Apart from this, Guntur IGP has also been transferred.No election duty will be givenThis decision of transfer of officers has been taken in the regular review meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. Under the instructions of the Commission, all the transferred officers have been asked to hand over their work to junior officers. These officers will not be assigned any election duty till the completion of General Elections 2024. The concerned state governments have also been directed to send a panel of names of IAS and IPS officers to the Commission.
