Gold Smuggling: Kannada film industry's well-known actress Ranya Rao is in jail in the gold smuggling case. Meanwhile, she has written a letter to the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and made serious allegations against the officials.

Arrest in gold smuggling

Let us tell you that on March 4, 2025, the DRI team arrested Ranya Rao with 14.8 kg of gold at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. It is said that she was bringing this gold from Dubai to India. The total value of this seizure has been estimated at Rs 12 crore. Ranya is the daughter of a senior police officer, due to which this matter has come into more headlines.

Serious allegations against DRI officials

In a letter written from jail, Ranya has alleged that she was physically and mentally tortured during interrogation. She claimed that the DRI officials slapped her several times and did not even give her food properly.

Apart from this, she said that she was forcibly made to sign more than 40 typed documents and some blank pages. Not only this, she alleged that the officials threatened that if she did not sign the documents, her father's name would also be dragged into the case.

Statement not repeated in court

This letter of Ranya was written on March 6, but when she was produced on remand on March 7, she did not file any complaint about it in the court. Neither did her lawyer mention these allegations during the remand or bail hearing.

Allegation of saving another passenger

Another shocking allegation has been made in the letter. Ranya says that a senior officer from Delhi deliberately implicated her in this case so that another passenger could be saved. She said that since her arrest, she was not allowed to sleep and was mentally harassed.

New twist in the case

With this letter of Ranya, the case has taken a new turn. There has been no official response from the DRI yet. Now it remains to be seen whether any new investigation is done on the basis of this letter or not.
