Bangalore Metro Pillar Collapse: A woman and her son were killed when an under-construction pillar of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) collapsed on Tuesday. A woman and her three-year-old son were killed, while her husband and another son were injured when an under-construction metro pole fell on their two-wheeler. The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Tejaswini and two-and-a-half-year-old son Vihaan. The accident happened when the family on a scooty was passing through the metro construction site near HBR Layout.File a complaint against the companyThe victim's family has filed a complaint against the contractor and Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC). Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhimashankar Guled confirmed that the police have received a complaint in this regard. He said that the experts will report the incident including the technical aspect. BMRCL has also ordered an inquiry into the accident. Additional Commissioner Chandrashekhar said that it has been found that there was a disturbance in the iron pole and prima facie negligence has also been found at the workplace. He said that the expert team will carry out inspection and verification.According to the police, Lohit Kumar, a civil engineer, was going to drop his Tejaswini at her workplace in Manyata Tech Park and his two sons at a child care centre. Lohit Kumar and another son narrowly escaped in this accident. He has got minor injuries. Tejaswini and Vihaan received head injuries and died due to profuse bleeding.The grandfather of the deceased child told that he had received a call from Lohit, but could not reach the spot due to traffic jam. Later, when he went to the hospital, he came to know about the death of one of his grandsons and daughter-in-law. He said, I am a retired government employee. The construction work has been done in an unscientific manner. A distance of at least 30 meters should have been kept. BMRCL has not taken any security measures.Vehicles are allowed to move at a distance of five to ten feet at workplaces. What would have happened if the iron pole had fallen on the bus, many lives would have been lost. He said, this is my sad day. I am not able to say anything. Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that he would get all the information regarding the construction work by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
