Arunachal Pradesh Election: BJP has returned to power by winning the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections for the third time. BJP has won 46 seats in the 60-member assembly. BJP has got four more seats than in 2019. In the counting of votes held on Sunday, BJP has defeated the opposition parties, especially Congress. In the election results, NPP has won 5, NCP 3 and PPA 5, Congress has won one and independents have won three seats.

After the victory, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that BJP's massive victory in the assembly elections shows the support of the people of the border state for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 44-year-old Khandu is also the youngest Chief Minister of the country.

Attacking the Congress, he said that Congress is a finished force. Congress was running the government in Arunachal Pradesh for a very long time. It had established a corrupt system. The then central leaders of the Congress had never approved any work without bribe, but BJP gave an alternative way of governance.

He said that the massive victory in the assembly elections in two northeastern states is a good sign before the counting of votes on June 4 for the national elections. Let us tell you that many exit polls have predicted a huge victory for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP emphasized on development in the state

BJP's focus in Arunachal has been on infrastructure, roads and connectivity. These have proved decisive. Congress's failure in the Northeast continues. In the last election, it had won only four seats. This time it has been reduced to one. However, the BJP has created a new record of retaining power by winning 46 out of 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh. Let us tell you that in the assembly elections, BJP has got 54.57 percent votes, while the percentage of Congress votes has come down to 5.56 percent. NCP got 10.43 percent, NPEP 16.11 percent, PPA 7.24 percent and others got 5.26 percent votes.

BJP got 54.57 percent votes

The BJP's vote percentage is 54.57 percent, while 14 of the party's candidates, including Education Minister Taba Tedir, lost this time. The minister was defeated by NCP candidate Toko Tatung in Yachuli constituency. A total of 20 candidates have won for the first time in the northeastern state. Eleven of them are from the BJP, four from the NPP, two each from the PPA and NCP and one independent. The opposition Congress had fielded 19 candidates in the 60-member assembly, but it managed to win only one seat, Bamang, where former state home minister Kumar Wai defeated BJP's Doba Lamniyo by a narrow margin of 635 votes.

Congress suffered a crushing defeat

State Congress president Nabam Tuki said the party was "disappointed but not discouraged" by the election results. He said, "We will introspect on the reasons for the defeat and work on the organization in the coming days. The National People's Party (NPP) won five seats and secured 16.11 per cent of the votes, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured 10.43 per cent of the votes and won three seats. The regional People's Party of Arunachal (PPA), which managed to win two seats, had a vote share of 7.24 per cent.
