Arvind Kejriwal News - 'By not resigning, Kejriwal put personal interest above national interest'- Delhi High Court reprimanded
Arvind Kejriwal News: Delhi High Court on Friday strongly reprimanded Arvind Kejriwal for not resigning from the post of Chief Minister. The court said that by not resigning from the post of Chief Minister after his arrest, Arvind Kejriwal has put personal interest above national interest. The court hit out at the AAP-led Delhi government, saying it was only interested in power. Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last month in a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam.Only interested in powerDelhi High Court pulled up the Delhi government over non-availability of books and uniforms for students in government schools. The court said that the Delhi government is not worried about students not having books. The court told the Delhi government's counsel, "Your client is only interested in power. I don't know how much power you want."MCD Commissioner gave this argumentEarlier, MCD Commissioner had said that a major reason for non-distribution of notebooks, stationery items, uniforms and school bags is the non-formation of permanent committees. He said that only the Standing Committee has the power and jurisdiction to award contracts worth more than Rs 5 crore. Then the High Court said that there should not be any vacancy of any kind. If for any reason a standing committee has not been constituted, the finances should be immediately handed over to an appropriate authority by GNCTD (Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi).Minister shedding crocodile tearsDelhi government's counsel told the court that he had received instructions from Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj that such delegation would require the consent of the Chief Minister, who is in custody. On this the court said, 'It is your choice that you said that the government will continue to function despite the Chief Minister being in custody. You are forcing us to go on a path that we did not want to go on. The court also remarked that Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has turned a blind eye to the plight of the students and is shedding crocodile tears.
