The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs on Saturday seized 2.545 kg of gold worth ₹1.22 crore from passengers who arrived from the United Arab Emirates at the Calicut International Airport.
The gold, withinside the form of the compound, has been hidden in the rectum of the passengers and coated in the pants worn via way of means of them. Upon extraction, the compound yielded a complete 2.545 kg of 24K gold, Deputy Commissioner T.A. Kiran, said.
The passengers hailed from Thirunavaya and Tirur in the Malappuram district. They have been journeying in an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. Their arrests have been recorded and that they have been launched on bail, he said.
