Central Government: Recently, the Central Government had increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central employees by 3%, increasing it to 53%. After this, the government has also announced an increase in nursing allowance and dress allowance. These changes will have a direct impact on the salary of the employees, which will increase their income.

Process of change in Dearness Allowance and Allowances

Changes in Dearness Allowance (DA) also affect other related allowances. As per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, when dearness allowance reaches 50%, other allowances are increased by 25%. This process is done to keep the salary and allowances of government employees in line with the changing inflation.

25% increase in nursing allowance

Nursing allowance, which is given to government nurses across the country, has now been increased by 25%. According to the order of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare dated 17 September 2024, this increase has been done after the dearness allowance is 50%. This change will improve the income of employees engaged in the nursing profession.

Increase in Dress Allowance

Dress allowance is also given to employees who are eligible to wear special dress during work. There is a provision to increase this allowance by 25% when the dearness allowance is 50%. According to the ministry, the purpose of this increase is to meet the dress related expenses of the employees.

7th Pay Commission and Dearness Allowance

The recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission came into effect from January 1, 2016. This commission re-evaluates the salaries, allowances and benefits of government employees every 10 years. The commission has ensured that along with the change in dearness allowance, other allowances are also revised accordingly.

Impact on employees' salary

The increase in nursing and dress allowance will have a direct impact on the salary of the employees. In view of the rising expenses due to inflation, this increase will provide financial relief to the employees.

Conclusion

This increase in nursing allowance and dress allowance by the Central Government is a positive step for government employees. This will not only improve their financial condition but will also help in reducing the impact of inflation. Revisions in other such allowances can be expected in the future as well when the dearness allowance is increased.
