Violent clashes broke out between two communities in Rajasthan's Jodhpur city last night. The controversy started over the throwing of the flag at Jalori Gate and putting up another flag. After this stone pelting started from both the sides. Police brought the situation under control by lathi-charge.
To prevent the spread of this ruckus, which took place on the night before the festival of Eid and Akshaya Tritiya being celebrated today, the administration has stopped internet services in the city. There are reports of several people getting injured in stone pelting. Several policemen were also injured. The atmosphere in the city is tense but calm. The Jodhpur district administration has appealed to the people of both the sides to maintain harmony and celebrate the festival peacefully.
The controversy started with the removal of a flag at Balmukand Bissa circle in the city and hoisting the flag of another community there. When some people took objection to this, there was a clash between the youths of both the sides. Suddenly the stone-pelting started. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and dispersed the crowd by using sticks. Heavy police force has been deployed at the spot. The Jodhpur district administration has stopped internet services as a precautionary measure to prevent further tension on the occasion of the festival. Prominent people of both the communities have also appealed to the public to maintain peace in the city.
Security beefed up for Eid prayersThe Jodhpur administration has tightened security arrangements for the Eid prayers to be offered on Tuesday morning. There is a big Idgah near the tense Jalori Gate intersection, where hundreds of people come to offer Namaz. The police have made tight security arrangements here.
