Coal production rose 29 per cent year-on-year to 66.5 million tonnes in April amid the ongoing power crisis in the country. Last year the production in the same month stood at 5.16 million tonnes.

operating at 100% capacity- Of the top-37 coal producing mines, 22 operated at more than 100 per cent capacity, while 10 mines were between 80 and 100 per cent.
- The Coal Ministry said that the prices of imported coal have been declining since the end of October, 2021.
Coal Secretary AK Jain said that the main reason for the current power crisis is the sharp fall in power generation from various sources. There is no shortage of coal in this.
