Maharashtra Election 2024: Amid preparations for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, an important meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) has concluded. 63 seats were discussed in this meeting, and the Congress has indicated that the first list candidates may be announced on October 23. Congress is expected to get more than 110 seats under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

Preparation of the first list

Out of the 63 names discussed during the meeting, there are 50 names on which the party is unanimous. However, given the experience of Haryana elections, the Congress is now carefully considering single names as well. Apart from this, more than one name was also brainstormed on 10 to 12 seats, so that there is no mistake in the selection process of the candidates.

Seat sharing problem

The problem of division still remains regarding seat sharing in MVA. Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said, "We have discussed 96 seats today. Some seats were discussed, but some are yet to be talked about. We will talk to Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray tomorrow. Our priority is to find a solution to the problem of sharing 30-40 seats." Voting for all 288 seats will be held on November 20, and the BJP, which is part of the ruling alliance Mahayuti, has already announced its candidates on 99 seats.

Samajwadi Party's demand

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has demanded 12 seats from the MVA. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav announced his candidate from Dhule assembly seat and while talking to the media said, "We have asked for 12 seats from the MVA, and the information of the seats has also been sent to them." The SP has already announced some candidates, including Abu Azmi, Rais Sheikh, Riyaz Azmi and Shan-e-Hind. Abu Azmi said that "We have announced five candidates so that the Maha Vikas Aghadi knows that we are strong here."
