Even after being corona negative in the country, viruses are being found alive in the stool of the patient. Live or active Kovid-19 virus is present in the sewer line around the house or hospital. Insacog is monitoring the presence of the virus by taking samples from sewers in 19 cities in 15 states. National Technical Advisory Group Chairman Dr. NK Arora said that in view of corona infection, it has been decided to increase sewer surveillance.
Apart from Mumbai, it has been confirmed in Karnataka, Gujarat and Telangana.- The research centers of INSACOG present in big cities have been entrusted with this responsibility. For the first time in the country, the corona virus was identified in the sewer line by the scientists of CCMB, Hyderabad.
- When the lockdown was declared in the year 2020, it was investigated by the scientists of CCMB in Telangana Hyderabad. After this, live or active virus was identified in Karnataka, Mumbai and even in Sabarmati river of Gujarat. That is why now INSAC has considered sewer monitoring to be important for the identification of different variants of the corona virus.
Active virus found in 62% sample- Pune-based National Institute of Virology recently completed a study, according to which after collecting the virus from the feces of 280 patients, when their genome was sequenced, 62 percent were found to be active.
- Report submitted to the Center: NIV has submitted the report to the Union Health Ministry, in which scientists have advised to increase the surveillance of sewer lines state wise. Based on the report, the government along with the states decided to conduct sample genome sequencing from sewer water.
- Identification of virus spread through sewer is easy: Dr. Pragya Yadav, Senior Scientist of NIV says that through examination of waste water samples and genome sequencing, various variants of the virus present in the surrounding area can be detected. Epidemiology also favors sewer surveillance for such infectious diseases. He told that this virus is affecting various parts of the body. So far, in many patients in the country, the corona virus has also been found in their intestine or its attached cells.
