Congress CWC Meeting: In the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in Belgaum, the Congress has taken several important decisions to revive and strengthen the organization. In this meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made it clear that the year 2025 will be the year of rebuilding and empowering the organization. He said that the organizational structure will be improved with all the vacant posts being filled.

Proposal of Constitution Yatra

The Congress has proposed to start the "Samvidhan Yatra" to keep the workers active at the grassroots level. This is not the first time that the CWC has decided to take steps towards strengthening the organization, but given past experiences, it will be interesting to see how effectively the party is able to implement its decisions this time.

Congress's struggle in 10 years

Since the fall of Manmohan Singh's government in 2014, 24 meetings of the CWC have been held so far. Despite these meetings, the Congress has lost more than 40 elections in the last 10 years. After 2014, Congress has won only in a few select states, such as Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka. However, despite these successes, the party has been continuously losing in many major states of the country.

Importance of CWC

The Congress Working Committee is the highest policy making body of the party. This committee not only takes major decisions of the party, but also works to give direction to the organization. It can have 25 members, including permanent and special members.

Conclusions of the meetings and their relevance

The CWC meetings have often discussed reorganizing the party and motivating the workers. In the Wardha meeting in 2018, there was talk of strengthening the organization, but many decisions remained limited to papers only. Similarly, the decisions taken in the Udaipur Chintan Shivir of 2022 were also not implemented on a large scale.

The way forward

Given past experiences, it is important for the Congress to make a concrete plan to implement its decisions. Along with strengthening the organization, the party needs to keep the workers active at the ground level and connect the youth with the party.

The challenges and electoral performance of the Congress clearly reflect the condition of the party. Now it remains to be seen whether the decisions of the Belgaum meeting are able to give a new direction to the party or not.
