Delhi is the most polluted city in 5 years, blanket of smog in the morning; AQI crosses 400

Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi's air is becoming poisonous. There is a blanket of mist in the air. Before Diwali, the air quality index has crossed 400 at many places, which is a dangerous level of pollution. The air quality index of Anand Vihar was recorded at 412 on Thursday. However, this is not the first time. If we look at the data of the last five years, the pollution level of Delhi reaches dangerous levels from October to November.

The air quality index of Delhi's Ashore Vihar was recorded at 420 today. Whereas, AQI of Bawana was recorded at 492. The air quality index of Burari crossing was recorded at 460. Delhi's air quality reached dangerous levels in CRI I Mathura Road. The air quality index here was recorded at 427.

Increase in PM 2.5 level in Delhi compared to last year

In comparison to the year 2021, there has been a significant increase in the level of PM (Particulate Matter) 2.5 in Delhi in October this year. According to the Respirr report, an increase in air pollution has been seen in four major cities of the country. Whereas a decline has been seen in Lucknow and Patna.

How was the situation last year?

In Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata this year the level of PM 2.5 was seen higher than last year. Whereas in Chennai there has been a decline of more than 23 percent as compared to last year. Respirr's report analyzed PM 2.5 in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Patna between 2019 and 2023.

Pollution level increased in Mumbai compared to last year

Bengaluru saw a 72.1 percent increase in PM 2.5 levels between 2019 and 2020. Whereas in 2021, a slight decline of 5.8 percent was seen. In 2022, there was again an increase of 29.6 percent, while in 2023, there was once again a decline of 11.6 percent. Pollution in Mumbai increased by more than 42 percent in October this year compared to last year.
