Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain judicial custody extended for 14 days in money laundering case

Delhi government minister Satyendar Jain will have to remain in jail for a few more days. A special CBI court on Monday extended the judicial custody of Jain, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case, for 14 days.

Special Judge Geetanjali Goel gave this order on the ED's plea seeking extension of the judicial custody of Satyendar Jain. Earlier in the day, the judge had refused to entertain the petition saying that neither Satyendar Jain nor any lawyer representing him was present in the court during the proceedings.

The court had directed the ED to ensure Jain's presence later in the day through video conference after Satyendar Jain was informed about his hospitalisation. He was admitted to a Delhi hospital last week after his oxygen level dropped.

The judge heard arguments on the ED's plea and extended Jain's judicial custody for another 14 days. The ED had arrested 57-year-old Jain on May 30 in an alleged money laundering case under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
