CBI Director Praveen Sood: State DGP Praveen Sood has been made the new director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a day after the results of the Karnataka assembly elections were announced. Today he took over his post. Praveen Sood, a 1986 batch IPS officer, will hold the post for two years. He is retiring in May 2024, but with this appointment, his tenure has been extended till May 2025. Before Sood, the CBI director was Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, whose term ended today.Adhir Ranjan had expressed disagreementPraveen Sood is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Karnataka cadre. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had cleared his name at a meeting of the high-powered committee. The Congress leader had reportedly disagreed with Sood's selection as the next CBI director. However, there was no official statement in this regard.Praveen Sood is a resident of KangraPraveen Sood is a resident of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Sood did his schooling from a government school in Delhi. After this he did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi. He became IPS in 1986 at the age of 22. He got Karnataka cadre. While in service, he completed MBA in Public Police Management from IIM Bangalore.DGP of Karnataka was made in 2020In the initial phase of police service, he was SP in Bellary and Raichur. Apart from this, he was also DCP in Bangalore and Mysuru. Sood has received gold medal from CM in 1996. Apart from this, the Police Medal in 2002 and the Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2011 were given by the President. In June 2020, Praveen Sood was made the DGP of Karnataka.
