India - Disaster again in Uttarakhand, many shops and houses buried under debris due to cloudburst
Uttarakhand | Shanti Bazaar of Devprayag has suffered a great deal due to the rise in the Shanta River due to the cloudburst on the Dashrath mountain in New Tehri. ITI's three-storey building was completely demolished. More than ten shops along the Shanta River were washed away. A road and a culvert from Devprayag Nagar to the bus stand were completely destroyed. The situation has not been cleared due to someone being buried in the debris. Due to the Corona curfew, the closure of shops, including the ITI, resulted in heavy loss of life and property.

The Shanta river, originating from the mountain of Dasharatha, suddenly went into a heavy storm due to the cloudburst on the Dashrath mountain of Devprayag on Tuesday evening. The mud and stones that came with huge amounts of water created havoc in Shanti Bazaar, causing the ITI's three-storey building standing on the pillars of cement and headers to be demolished. Dewan Singh, a security personnel present at the ITI building, somehow saved his life. Nearly ten shops, including computer centers, private banks, electricity, photography in the ITI building, were completely destroyed due to the debris in the river.

On the other hand, the culvert on Shanta river, along with the road to the bus station, the shops of jewelers, clothes, sweets etc. were also completely destroyed due to the heavy boom in the river. Shanta River joins the Bhagirathi River from Devprayag Bus Base via Shanti Bazaar. Initial estimates of heavy losses are being made in the peace market. The Devprayag Police Station is yet to report any casualties. If the corona curfew was not there, there could have been a large number of casualties in the city. Devprayag police station in-charge MS Rawat said that the police team has been deployed on the spot.
