CSK vs KKR: The IPL 2025 season has been nothing less than a nightmare for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) so far. After the team's consistent poor performance this season and defeat in five matches, the management took a big decision—a change in captaincy. In the match played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 11, MS Dhoni was once again given the responsibility of captaincy. This was the first time since 2023 that 'Captain Cool' Dhoni took over the captaincy on the field again, but the result was against expectations.

Embarrassing performance and growing concerns

Chennai's team looked completely scattered against Kolkata. In the six overs of the powerplay, CSK scored just 31 runs after losing two wickets. When a fast start was needed in the match, the team looked sluggish and defensive. Ultimately, Chennai suffered a crushing defeat and its position in the playoff race became even weaker.

Dhoni's sharp statement on the team

After the match, Dhoni spoke openly on the team's performance and raised questions on many important points. He said:

"We did not get any big partnerships. If there were a few more partnerships, we could have been fine. The batsmen have to support their strengths and play the shots they can play with confidence. Our openers play authentic shots but it is important not to come under pressure by looking at the scoreboard."

Dhoni also made it clear that if the team continues to make slow starts like this, then it will become difficult to chase or make big scores.

Need for introspection

Dhoni warned the players that now is the time to learn from their mistakes and improve them. He said:

"This season, things have not gone in our favor again and again. We need to see where we are going wrong and correct those mistakes. The ball was coming to a stop and in such a situation it is important to save wickets."

What next?

Despite the change in captaincy, CSK's balance still seems to be disturbed. The team now not only needs to rethink its strategy, but also needs to enter the field with mental strength and aggression. Hopes were revived under Dhoni's captaincy, but if the performance does not change, this season could prove to be the most disappointing in the history of Chennai Super Kings.
