Dr Girdhar Gyani, Director General of the Association of Healthcare Providers - India (AHPI), said that an increase in government spending is necessary to deal with emerging health threats and achieve universal health coverage. He said that the government should prioritize a comprehensive approach to building a 'healthy India', focusing on sanitation, clean drinking water and nutrition. He said that public health institutions should be professionalized under autonomous state boards, and the Ayushman Bharat scheme should be restructured to include all SECC-2011 beneficiaries.

Healthcare budget should be increased to 2.5 percent of GDP

Ujala Cygnus Group of Hospitals Chairman and Director Prabal Ghoshal urged the government to increase healthcare expenditure to 2.5 percent of GDP, focusing on rural areas.
