Five people of a family died due to fire in the house, incident happened in Varkala town

Five members of a family were killed when a house caught fire in Kerala's Varkala town late on Monday night. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

According to the police, the incident took place at Varkala's Dalavapuram at around 1.45 pm on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Prathapan (62), Sherly (53), Abhirami (25), Akhil (29) and Abhirami's eight-month-old son Prathapan. On the other hand, Prathapan's elder son Nihul is badly burnt. His treatment continues.

Neighbors informed the fire brigade. Fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot. At least five motor cycles and air conditioners installed in the house were also gutted in the fire. Officials said that nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire. Rural SP Divya Gopinath said that anything can be said only after forensic experts investigate the spot.
