Sushil Kumar Modi News: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi has passed away. At the age of 72, he breathed his last in AIIMS Hospital, Delhi. He was battling cancer for some time. Sushil Modi was a different identity in the politics of Bihar. His pairing with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been considered very special. Due to this illness, he was away from politics for some time. He himself had talked about fighting cancer.

Sushil Kumar Modi's demise amid Lok Sabha elections is a big blow for Bihar BJP as well as the national leadership. His activism in the party has been quite special. Apart from Deputy CM, he has also been a Rajya Sabha MP. In his three decades of public life, he had been a member of all four houses including Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha, Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly.

Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary has expressed grief over the demise of former Deputy CM of the state Sushil Kumar Modi and paid a heartfelt tribute to him. He wrote, "Senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Modi ji is no more with us. This is an irreparable loss for the entire BJP organizational family as well as countless workers like me. He will be remembered for his organizational skills, administrative understanding and He will always be remembered for his deep knowledge on socio-political issues. May God give eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family in this hour of grief."

Suffered from throat cancer

Sushil Kumar Modi was suffering from throat cancer and was undergoing treatment at Delhi AIIMS. He came to know about this disease when he got himself examined for throat pain three months ago. Many big leaders including Amit Shah, JP Nadda have expressed grief over the demise of Sushil Kumar Modi

Career started from JP movement

Like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, Sushil Kumar Modi's career also started with the JP movement. He emerged as a student leader in this movement. He entered politics in the 70s and later became the face of Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar. He remained associated with politics since his student days. In 1971 he entered student politics. Contested elections for the first time from Patna Central Assembly constituency in 1990 and won. In 2004, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Bhagalpur and reached the Lok Sabha after winning. In 2005, he resigned from the post of MP and became the Deputy Chief Minister. However, he did not contest the assembly elections to become Deputy Chief Minister, but was elected to the Legislative Council.
