Delhi: The cases of corona epidemic have once again gained momentum across the country. Taking precautionary measures amid increasing cases of corona, Delhi has increased the pace of genome sequencing of samples to detect any new variant of Kovid. Giving information about this on Saturday, officials said that according to the data shared here by the Health Department of Delhi, 1,797 new cases of Kovid were reported in Delhi on Friday, which is the highest number of a day in nearly four months. One person also died due to infection on Friday, while the infection rate increased to 8.8 percent.

Delhi government-run Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) has a genome sequencing laboratory. It has the capacity to analyze 350 samples in four to five days. A doctor of the institute itself gave this information.

Sources said that from the end of 2021 till June 5, ILBS has tested 5,000 to 6,000 samples and most of them were confirmed by Omicron. He said that only samples with a Ct value of less than 25 can be tested.

We have so far traced BA.1 and BA.2 and its sub-variants, but have not found any new variants, a source said. It has been learned that a new variant has been found in Maharashtra. The results of some samples will come in the next few days.

Officials said that the Delhi government is holding regular meetings to take stock of the situation arising out of the corona virus.

The number of samples being sent for genome sequencing to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital and ILBS has increased, but only those with a Ct value of less than 25 can be sequenced.

According to official figures, the cases of Kovid in Delhi have increased in the last 10 days. On June 6, 247 cases were reported in the state, while on June 15, 1300 cases were reported. Amidst the increase in the cases of Kovid, the infection rate also increased from 1.92 percent on June 7 to 7.01 percent on June 15 and 8.18 percent on June 17.
