New Delhi : The central government has announced to form a committee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) after the assembly elections. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told the Rajya Sabha on Friday that a committee on MSP would be announced after the assembly elections in five states. He reiterated that the government was committed to the welfare of farmers.

The Minister made this announcement while answering a question during Question Hour. Tomar said the government had written to the Election Commission (EC) regarding the announcement of the committee on MSP in view of the assembly elections in five states. According to the minister, the Election Commission has advised that the committee on MSP should be announced after the elections are over in the states.

PM Modi had announced to form a committee on MSP

In November last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while announcing the repeal of three agriculture laws, had said that a committee would be set up to discuss farmers' demand for a legal guarantee on MSP. Tomar said, "The whole country knows that the Prime Minister has announced the formation of a committee for crop diversification, natural farming and making MSP effective and transparent. The government is committed to the announcement made by the PM. The matter is under consideration of the ministry." And the committee will be announced after the assembly elections."

The results of the assembly elections will come on March 10

Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab. Voting will be held in seven phases for 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on February 10, February 14, February 20, February 23, February 27, March 3 and March 7. Voting will be held on the same day on February 14 in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand. Manipur will go to polls in two phases on February 27 and March 3. Counting of votes for 70 seats in Uttarakhand, 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 117 in Punjab, 60 in Manipur and 40 seats in Goa will take place on March 10.
