According to sources, the government can take two stances regarding LPG cylinders. First that the government should supply cylinders without subsidy. Second, some selected consumers should also be given the benefit of subsidy. However, nothing has been said clearly about giving subsidy.
What is the status of subsidy?
In the year 2020, when the worldwide lockdown was imposed due to the coronovirus epidemic, the prices of crude oil fell. This helped the Government of India on the LPG subsidy front as the prices were low and there was no need to change the subsidy. From May 2020 onwards, LPG subsidy has stopped in many areas, except a few that are remote and away from LPG plants.

The government can consider subsidy, but it is clear that the rule of Rs 10 lakh income will be kept in force and the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme will get the benefit of subsidy. Let us tell you that this scheme was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016 to provide LPG connection to the below poverty line families. There are more than 29 crore LPG connections in India, out of which there are about 8.8 LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme. In FY22, the government is planning to add another one crore connections under the scheme.
How much does the government spend on subsidies?
The government's expenditure on subsidies stood at Rs 3,559 during the financial year 2021. In the financial year 2020, this expenditure was Rs 24,468 crore. Actually this is under the DBT scheme, which was started in January 2015, under which the customers have to pay the full amount for the non-subsidized LPG cylinder. At the same time, the subsidy money is refunded to the customer's bank account on behalf of the government. Since this refund is direct, the scheme is named DBTL.
How much has been the cost of cylinder till now
Explain that under LPG subsidy, 12 cylinders are given to a family in a year, but since May 2020, zero subsidy has been given to consumers on domestic LPG cylinders in some markets. Talking about the price of LPG gas cylinder, so far in the year 2021, an increase of Rs 190.50 has been made. On September 1, the price of LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 25. This increase was made on 14.2 kg cylinder i.e. domestic gas. With this increase, the price of cylinder in Delhi has gone up to Rs 884.50.
