Sheikh Hasina - Hasina's passport cancelled, now how will she travel from India to other countries?
Sheikh Hasina: The troubles of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are not ending. On August 5, she had to seek refuge in India from Dhaka to save her life, before which she had to resign as Prime Minister. Now the current government of Bangladesh has also canceled her diplomatic passport, which has further complicated her situation.

More than 50 cases are registered against Sheikh Hasina, in which the main allegations are murder and human rights violations. A United Nations team is also investigating human rights violations in Bangladesh, which has further increased her troubles. Despite taking refuge in India, now she will not be able to travel to any other country, which has increased the pressure on her to return to Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh government can seek the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, and for this there is an extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh since 2013. However, no official request has been made on this yet. More than 30 charges have been leveled against Sheikh Hasina in cases of crimes against humanity, genocide and murder, which has made her legal situation more serious.

Bangladesh may demand extradition of Sheikh Hasina

More than 50 cases have been registered against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh, most of which are murder cases. A United Nations team has also reached Bangladesh which will investigate the cases of human rights violations during Sheikh Hasina's tenure. In its preliminary investigation, the UN team has made many serious allegations against Sheikh Hasina. It is believed that soon the Bangladesh government may seek extradition of Sheikh Hasina from India.

There is an extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh since 2013. When the TV9 reporter asked the Foreign Ministry spokesperson a question on August 16 regarding the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, the Foreign Ministry had said that this is a hypothetical situation right now, that is, no demand has been made by Bangladesh yet.

Sheikh Hasina (76) resigned and fled to India on August 5 after massive protests by students and others against her government over the controversial reservation system in government jobs in Bangladesh. More than 600 people were killed since student protests began against the Hasina-led Awami League government in mid-July. An interim government led by Mohammad Yunus was formed after Sheikh Hasina's ouster.
