High court will hear today, petition was filed on behalf of five girls

The High Court will hear the Hijab dispute case in Udupi, Karnataka today. This hearing is going to take place on the petition filed by five girls. Actually, a petition was filed on behalf of these girl students opposing the new Uniform Law. Now wearing hijab in colleges has been banned under the new rule.

On January 1, six Muslim girl students were barred from attending classes at the Government Pre-University College in Udupi, otherwise. All these girls were wearing hijabs. The college management cited the new Uniform Law as the reason behind the ban. The issue has now spread to other government colleges in Udupi as well. 28 Muslim girl students of Kundapura College were also not allowed to attend classes wearing hijab. Since then, many girl students have been protesting against the ban on hijab.

Karnataka government imposed restrictions, girls reached High Court

The Bommai government on Saturday issued a circular banning the kind of dress which disrupts peace, harmony and law and order in educational institutions in the state. The Karnataka High Court will today hear a plea by five girls studying in the Government Pre-University College, Udupi, who have opposed the ban on wearing hijab in the college.

Karnataka's education minister also gave a statement

Earlier, Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh had said that girl students who do not follow the Uniform Code are at liberty to explore other options. Nagesh told reporters in Mysuru, "Just as rules are followed in the army, so is it done here (in educational institutions). Options are open to those who do not want to follow it." The minister appealed to the students not to become a "weapon" in the hands of political parties.

HD Deve Gowda appealed to the government

On the Hijab issue of Karnataka, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) President HD Deve Gowda said that there are some elements which are misleading the students and political parties are taking advantage of the 2023 elections. The government can stop it. Such issues divide the country.
