Parliament Winter Session: The winter session of Parliament began on Monday, in which political fervour intensified after the victory of the NDA alliance in the recently concluded assembly elections in two states of the country. However, the session started with uproar. Opposition parties demanded a discussion on the allegations against the Adani Group, due to which the proceedings of Parliament were disrupted.

Tribute to deceased members

At the beginning of the session, tributes were paid to Vasant Rao Chavan, Nurul Islam, MPs of the 18th Lok Sabha and other deceased former members - MM Lawrence, M. Parvati and Harish Chandra Deorao Chavan. After this, the proceedings of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for healthy discussion at the start of the winter session. He said that some people, who have been rejected by the public, are trying to disrupt Parliament. PM Modi urged all members to take part in constructive dialogue during the session.

Issues raised in all-party meeting

An all-party meeting was held on Sunday on the eve of the winter session under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. 42 leaders from 30 parties participated in this meeting. Opposition parties demanded a discussion on the US allegations on the Adani Group, while Union Minister Kiren Rijiju made it clear that the issues to be raised in the House will be decided with the consent of the concerned Speaker.

Possible discussion on Waqf Amendment Bill

The Waqf Amendment Bill is also likely to be discussed during the winter session. Chairman of the Joint Committee of Parliament, Jagdambika Pal, informed that the report on the bill is ready and efforts will be made to take it forward with the consensus of all the members.

Opposition's preparation

Opposition MPs have demanded extension of the committee's term till November 29. They met the Lok Sabha Speaker in this regard on November 25. The opposition says that sufficient time should be given for proper consideration and discussion on the bill.
