Delhi Elections: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said in a press conference on Sunday that the credit for the success of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) goes to the support of the common people of Delhi and the donations given by them. She said that during the first election of 2013, when the party started its journey, the workers used to go door to door and collect small donations from the public. After the street meetings, people used to voluntarily make small contributions like Rs 10, Rs 50 and Rs 100. Due to this public support, the party adopted the politics of honesty and did not take donations from big businessmen.Atishi said that the funding model of traditional political parties is linked to businessmen. When such parties come to power, their primary objective becomes to serve the interests of businessmen. The Aam Aadmi Party challenged this trend and did politics with the help of small donations from the public. She said that the party has received public support till date due to its honesty and transparency. At the press conference, Atishi also announced that she is starting a crowd funding campaign to contest the election from Kalkaji assembly constituency. She said that she will need Rs 40 lakh for the election campaign. To raise this amount, she has appealed to the public for cooperation. She said, "I appeal to the people of Delhi and the country to donate to me. Anyone who supports my politics can contribute by visiting the link atishi.aamaadmiparty.org. Whether you give Rs 100 or thousand, your every donation is important to me. I will fight this election with the help of public donations only." Atishi also attacked the wrong traditions going on in politics regarding election funding. She said that it is very easy to raise election expenses through wrong means. She said that the annual budget of Delhi is about Rs 77,000 crore. If a Chief Minister wants to collect money through wrong means, then an amount of Rs 40 lakh can be obtained in a day. But AAP has always chosen the path of clean politics and has decided to contest elections on the basis of public trust. She said that it is not easy to maintain honest politics, but the trust and cooperation of the public is the biggest source of inspiration. Atishi assured the public that every contribution will help in meeting her election needs and she will carry forward her campaign with complete transparency. This crowd funding campaign of Atishi once again reflects the grassroots politics of AAP and her connection with the public. This model shows a new direction in Indian politics, where elections can be fought with the support of the common people instead of big industrialists.
