In the cricket world where the art of finger spin is on the decline, Lyon has managed to weave magic across the globe with his variations. With 394 Test wickets to his name from 98 Tests, the 33-year-old hasn’t shown signs of fading away by any stretch of the imagination.
He is currently taking part in the four-match Test series against Australia and hasn’t disappointed. Though he picked up only four wickets from three innings, he hardly allowed the batters to take him to the cleaners. In the first innings of the second Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Lyon picked three wickets of Hanuma Vihari, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. In the second innings, he didn’t get to bowl much as India were only faced with a target of 70. He has 18 five-wicket hauls and 16 four-wicket hauls to his name, showing how much effective he has been in the longest format of the game. Not to forget that he has 1,064 runs to his name as well at an average and strike-rate of 12.22 and 47.35 respectively. The third and final Test begins on January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Lyon has grown up playing at the SCG and he will be looking to use all his experience.
