Coronavirus | The death toll from the pandemic has crossed 1 lakh in Maharashtra, most devastated by the second wave of Corona. This is equal to 30 percent of the total deaths due to corona in the country. That is, in all the deaths due to corona in the country, only about 30 percent is contributed by Maharashtra. On Thursday, 650 new deaths were recorded from Corona in Maharashtra, taking the figure to one lakh. This also includes over 2,800 deaths that the state has named as deaths due to other diseases.

According to government figures, till Thursday, 100,233 people have lost their lives due to corona virus in the state. Half of these deaths have occurred after February 15. That is, half the deaths have occurred in the second wave of Corona itself. Maharashtra continues to contribute to more than 20 per cent of the deaths from across the country. Overall, the state accounts for nearly 30 per cent of the more than 3.4 lakh coronavirus-related deaths in India so far. This ratio has remained almost constant during the pandemic.

Talking about inside Maharashtra, the condition of Mumbai and Pune is worst than Corona. Mumbai and Pune have recorded the highest number of corona deaths within the state. While 15000 people have died in Mumbai so far, 12700 people have lost their lives in Pune. Apart from this, 8000 people have died in Thane and 6500 in Nagpur due to corona.

Not only deaths, Maharashtra also tops the country in terms of corona cases. Maharashtra has the highest number of cases in the country and has recorded around 58 lakh infections so far. Maharashtra accounts for 20 percent of all corona cases in the country and 30 percent of all deaths. However, Maharashtra's position in corona mortality rate is better than Punjab.

Punjab may contribute only two percent of the total corona cases in the country, but it contributes 4.5 percent to the deaths. So far 15000 people have died in Punjab. The corona death rate here is 2.58. It is the only state where this rate is more than 2. In Maharashtra this rate is 1.73. Whereas India's corona death rate is only 1.31.

Deaths due to corona in other states of the country

In the new cases of death, maximum 650 people died in Maharashtra, 514 in Karnataka, 460 in Tamil Nadu, 153 in Kerala and 108-108 patients died in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. Of the 3,40,702 deaths so far in the country, 100,233 deaths occurred in Maharashtra, 30,531 in Karnataka, 25,665 in Tamil Nadu, 24,447 in Delhi, 20,895 in Uttar Pradesh, 15,921 in West Bengal, 14,840 in Punjab and 13,139 in Chhattisgarh.
