Cricket - Maxwell heard the noise: Wade on why Warner didn't take DRS in T20 WC semi-final
Cricket Desk: Australia batter Matthew Wade has put forth the reasons behind David Warner not opting for the DRS after he was given out ‘caught behind’. Warner scored 49 off 30 and got out to Shadab Khan in the 11th over of the Aussies’ run-chase in the semi-final of the 2021 T20 World Cup against Pakistan.

Both Shadab and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan reckoned that Warner had got a big edge after which the umpire raised his finger. Warner walked away without taking the DRS, but replays showed a flat line on UltraEdge and a big gap between bat and ball was also visible.

However, Glenn Maxwell, who was at the non-striker’s end, heard a noise after which Warner walked off silently. Warner also top-scored for Australia and hit three fours and as many sixes in his knock.

It’s really tough in those situations, says Matthew Wade

“Yeah, we haven’t had too much time to chat about it, just passing comments… I think there was a noise. He (Warner) wasn’t sure, maybe his bat handle clicked or his hand on his bat. He didn’t think that he hit it but I think Glenn at the other end heard the noise and to be fair that out there, that was the only thing that could have been so he was potentially thinking that he (Warner) might have hit it.

“It’s really tough in those situations. How many times do you see a batter think that they haven’t hit it and they have?” Wade was quoted as saying to Sportskeeda.

“Glenn at the other end heard the noise So, a little bit of reassurance from the other end I suppose [would have helped] but that’s now how it [went] with Maxy. Maxy heard a noise and he was batting out there,” he added.

As far as Wade is concerned, he went on to bag the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 17-ball 41, laced with two fours and four sixes. In the final over, he got a lifeline as Hasan Ali dropped a catch in the deep. Thereafter, Wade hit Shaheen Shah Afridi for three sixes in a row to help Australia win by five wickets with six balls left.
