Cricket - Moeen Ali becomes latest player to predict demise of ODI cricket
Cricket | England all-rounder Moeen Ali has become another international player of great stature, who has expressed concern over the future of One Day International cricket due to a busy cricket schedule. In recent times, several of Moeen's colleagues, such as Jos Buttler, Joe Root and Ben Stokes, have spoken on the subject. Due to their schedule, England played 12 limited overs matches against India and South Africa in 25 days respectively.

During a sponsor's event ahead of his team Birmingham Phoenix's first match in 'The Hundred' competition, Moeen said, "The schedule is just too wide. You want to keep yourself available for franchise cricket but that would mean Tests." Or miss the one-day match. You want you to play all the matches for England. I don't think it's sustainable."

He said, "I am afraid after two years we will lose ODI cricket because it is a long boring format. T20 has its place and then you also have Test cricket which is great. 50-over cricket between these two. It doesn't get the importance. I personally feel that too much cricket is being played. In one sense it is good for the game but it shouldn't stop international cricket."

Stokes had recently retired from ODI cricket to continue his Test captaincy and T20I cricket. Moin says that many more players can take such a step keeping in mind their health. He himself had announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2021 but said this June that he was keen to play Test cricket again.

Moin said, "The best option is to play international cricket in all three formats. But there are so many matches happening these days that players retire from one format. As long as the programs go on like this, it will be more like this." Will stay." Moeen himself does not want to miss a match for England in any format at the moment. The 35-year-old is likely to be included in the squad for the Test series in Pakistan, but he highlighted the difficulty of choosing one or two formats for young players entering cricket.

He said, “If you are a young player then nowadays you can earn so much money even by leaving international cricket. It is unfortunate because you can lose your appetite for the top of cricket, Test cricket. If you don't even play Test, you are left with so many options. I know it is too early to predict but many great players will turn their back on Test cricket. It is not a big deal for today's cricketers to not play Tests while 10-15 years from now Till earlier this was the criterion on which you wanted to be successful."
