This disease was first seen in a monkey in 1958. Its infection was detected in humans for the first time in 1970. It is a rare but serious viral disease. It shows symptoms like fever, pain and tiredness. First red rashes and then boils are formed on the body. Smallpox-like rash emerges. According to the WHO, every 10th person infected with monkeypox can die. The people living near the forest are more prone to this disease. This disease can also take its grip of people through homosexual sex. Its effect usually lasts for two to four weeks. In some cases it can be serious, but in most it gets better on its own.So far no suspected patient of monkeypox has been found in India. However, the central government has asked to be alert about this disease. According to news agency ANI, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has directed the National Center for Disease Control and ICMR to monitor the situation. He has said that health officials at airports and ports should be alert and isolate and test travelers coming from countries affected by monkeypox. Samples of passengers with symptoms of monkeypox should be sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune for examination.
