Elon Musk News - Musk's Starlink and Amazon's satellite service in trouble!
Elon Musk News: There may be a delay in the launch of Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon Web satellite internet services in India. The main reason for this is the new demands made by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Government of India. DoT has asked these companies to submit security-related compliance and necessary documents as soon as possible, so that their application process can be taken forward. At present, Airtel's Eutelsat Oneweb and Jio's SES satellite services have got approval from the department, while Starlink and Amazon Web will have to comply with certain conditions.DoT's special demandsDoT has directed Starlink and Amazon to provide necessary information regarding coverage area, data sharing, and operations in sensitive areas under security standards. The department said that some areas of India are very sensitive in terms of security, and companies will have to submit the relevant documents before providing service in these areas. This process is being done with the aim of strengthening the Indian data security and monitoring mechanism.According to ET report, Starlink and Amazon Web have not yet submitted documents of security compliance. DoT has written a letter to both the companies for this and there is also a plan to send a reminder in a few days. According to an official, their application will be proceeded only after meeting the compliance conditions, otherwise there may be a delay in permission for services.Other hurdles to start servicesElon Musk's Starlink applied for a Global Mobile Personal Communication Satellite Service (GMPCS) license for India in October 2022, while Amazon Web submitted its application last year. At the same time, TRAI is also taking feedback from other stakeholders on spectrum pricing and other necessary conditions to ensure transparency and justice in the process.Increasing competition in IndiaThe Indian satellite internet market already has companies like Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone-Idea who plan to provide satellite internet services along with their mobile services. With the entry of Amazon Web and Starlink in the market, the sector will become even more competitive. This move by the Indian government could open up new possibilities in the satellite internet market, although Starlink and Amazon will be allowed to start service in India only after resolving these hurdles.
