The election battle has been set in twenty districts and the political parties are face to face. The first phase of elections is on 10th and the second phase elections are on 14th February. A large number of Muslim candidates have been fielded in both the phases. What is important is that in many seats the Muslim voter numbers are substantial and they have the ability to change the outcome of the election. This is the reason that barring the BJP, other parties have bet a lot on Muslims.There is a strong hold of Muslim votes in the 113 seats in western UP where elections are being held in both the initial phases. Polling will be held in 58 seats in 11 districts in the first phase and 55 seats in nine districts in the second phase. In these seats, SP-RLD alliance, BSP, Congress and Owaisi's party have fiercely given tickets to Muslims. These parties have given tickets to 127 Muslim candidates. Of these, 50 in the first phase seats and 77 Muslim candidates in the second phase seats.
Maths of both stagesIn the first phase, 13 Muslim candidates of SP-RLD alliance, 17 of BSP, 11 of Congress and 9 of AIMIM are contesting. In the second phase, 18 Muslim candidates of SP-RLD alliance, 23 of BSP, 21 of Congress and 15 of AIMIM are in the fray. In the last election, the BJP had won 53 out of 58 seats in the first phase and 38 out of 55 seats in the second phase.
More number of Muslims in these nine seatsThere are nine seats in western UP where Muslim voters are overwhelming all. In these nine seats, the number of Muslim voters is about 57 percent.Moradabad city: SP has fielded Yusuf Ansari, BSP has fielded Irshad Hussain and Congress has fielded Rizwan Qureshi from here due to majority of Muslim voters.Meerut Sadar: Due to the high number of Muslim voters here too, the SP has bet on the current MLA Rafiq Ansari. BSP has given ticket to Dilshad Shaukat from here.Rampur Sadar: SP has played bets on its old veteran Azam Khan, while BSP's Sadaqat Hussain is in the electoral battle. Congress has given ticket to Nawab Talim Ali Khan alias Naved Mian.Sambhal: Iqbal Mehmood is in the fray on SP ticket. Congress has given ticket to Nida Ahmed and BSP to Shakeel Ahmed.Moradabad Rural: Haji Ikram Qureshi won the Moradabad seat last time from SP. When SP cut his ticket this time, he brought ticket from Congress. Nasir Qureshi is contesting from SP and Akil Choudhary is contesting from BSP.Kundarki: Darakhshan Begum from Congress, Ziaur Rehman Burke from SP and Haji Rizwan (sitting MLA) from BSP are in the electoral battle. Last time Rizwan had won from SP. This time the ticket was cut, so they brought the ticket from BSP.Amroha Nagar: Mehboob Ali from SP, Salim Khan from Congress, Naved Ayaz from BSP are in the electoral battle in Amroha.Dhaulana: AIMIM has given ticket to Haji Arif, SP has given ticket to Aslam Chaudhary from Dhaulana seat of Hapur. Last time BSP had given ticket to Aslam Chaudhary and he won, but this time Aslam has joined SP. BSP has fielded Basid Ali here.Behat: Umar Ali from SP, Raees Malik from BSP are in the fray. Both the parties have bet on Muslims.Saharanpur Dehat: SP-RLD alliance has given ticket to Ashu Malik from here. Margub Hasan is contesting from AIMIM.
