Indian boxers Neetu and Nikhat Zareen have won the gold medal in the 73rd Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament being played in Sofia, Bulgaria. Neetu defeated Italian boxer Erica Prisciandaro in the final played on Sunday.Erica has been a bronze medalist of the former Youth World Championship. They were defeated by Neetu 5-0. Neetu took great advantage of his tall stature during the match and showered a counter attack on Erica. Neetu is a two-time former youth world champion as well as a former gold medalist at the Asian Youth Championships.
Father took leave from job for daughter21-year-old Neetu from Haryana hails from Dhanana village in Bhiwani, Haryana. Her father had taken a three-year leave from the state government job without pay to get her daughter boxing coaching.When Neetu started doing well at the international level, she resumed her job in Chandigarh. India had won two medals in the previous edition with Deepak Kumar taking silver and Naveen Bura getting bronze.
On Sunday, former youth world champion Nikhat Zareen of Hyderabad also defeated Ukraine's Tetania Kob 4-1 in the final of 52 kg category. Tetania is a three-time European Championship medalist.
