No terrorist activity reported in J&K for two years: Union Minister

Srinagar: Minister of State (Home) G Kishan Reddy on Sunday asserted that things have "massively" changed in Jammu and Kashmir and that no terrorist activity has been reported in the Valley from past two years.

When asked about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Reddy said, "Things have changed here (J&K) massively, including incidents of infiltration, insurgency, bomb explosions, or any other activity."

"Except for one or two incidents, no terrorist activity reported for two years in the Valley," he added.

Interestingly, Reddy's remarks have come barely two days after two policemen and two civilians died in a terrorist attack in north Kashmir's Sopore town.

The J&K Police confirmed that that attack was carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives.

While the MoS (Home) claimed "one or two" terrorist activities in the last two years, according to official reports, three terror incidents have taken place in Kashmir since the start of this month alone.

On June 2, BJP councilor Rajesh Pandita and a woman were shot dead by terrorists owing allegiance to the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group in the Tral area of Pulwama.

On June 11, suspected terrorists lobbed a grenade at a joint naka party of the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Friday. The CRPF officials said the grenade missed the target and exploded on the road causing no injuries or loss.

On June 12, two policemen posted for enforcing Covid restrictions and two civilians were killed when Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists carried out a deadly strike in Sopore in North Kashmir, an incident which drew widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum.
