New Zealand women team’s stars Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu have announced the arrival of their first child, Grace Marie Satterthwaite. Amy and Lea, a lesbian couple, were engaged in 2014 and then got married in March 2017. LGBT marriage was made legal in New Zealand in August 2013 and the love birds did not take long to announce their relationship to the world. Amy and Lea are together since 2010.While they are the first same-sex couple in women’s cricket, as of now they are not the only such couple. Last year, New Zealand and Perth Scorchers allrounder Hayley Jensen tied the knot with long-time partner Nicola Hancock. In July 2018, South African women’s cricket team captain Dane van Niekerk also married her teammate Marizanne Kapp.Lea Tahuhu announced the news of the child’s birthComing to Amy and Lea, last year the former had announced she would be taking time away from cricket and captaining New Zealand for the birth of the child. In August last year, the couple had revealed to the world that they were expecting their first child. Amy had said that she was eyeing a return to the game through the 50-over World Cup at home in 20201.“Lea and I are overjoyed to share the news that I’m expecting our first child early in the new year. It is a special time in our lives and we can’t wait for this new chapter,” Amy had announced through a statement.“I am very lucky to have great support from NZC with regard to taking a break from the game to have a family. I feel I still have a lot to give to the game and look forward to working my way back with an eye on the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup held in New Zealand.”And on Thursday, Lea announced the news of the child’s birth. Lea took to Instagram to reveal the big news to her followers. She posted a very cute photo of the newborn holding the couple’s hands and wrote:“Amy and I are excited to announce the arrival of Grace Marie Satterthwaite, born 13th January. We are so grateful and couldn’t be happier #babysatterhuhu.”
