Ola Electric Scooter Scam: From email fraud to social media crime, banking fraud, lottery scam, gift card fraud, fake government website fraud, job fraud, KYC fraud, cyber criminals are cheating people. Cyber criminals keep changing their modus operandi over time, making it difficult for people to avoid them. In yet another example of how clever cyber criminals can be, over 1,000 people have been duped through the fake website of Ola Electric.This scam has come to the fore after an FIR was lodged with the Cybercrime Police. Around 20 people have been detained and further investigation is underway. At the moment, it is not clear whether the people who were cheated will get their full money back or not. Cyber criminals usually commit fraud through cash transactions or other tricky channels. As per preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that this scam was started by two persons in Bengaluru.Preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged scammers had created a fake website of Ola Electric to target people booking Ola Electric scooters. The person who lodged the FIR told that he was cheated while booking the scooter. He had earlier used the Ola app, but due to lack of finance option in it, he started looking for other options on the internet, after which he reached the fake website of Ola Electric.For this he entered details like name and mobile number on the website. It is alleged that as soon as personal details were made available, it was shared with other members of the gang operating from Bihar and Telangana. Thereafter, the victim received a call and was asked to pay Rs 499 for booking the scooter. Assuming it to be a genuine call, the victim paid the amount through the PayU app. Rs 13,000 was also taken from its victim in the name of delivery.
