Pakistan's PM Sharif resigns from his post, Nawaz Sharif will take command

PM Shehbaz Sharif: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif suddenly resigned from the post of President of Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday. Now his entire focus will be on the responsibility of the post of Prime Minister. Till now he was holding both the posts. But by resigning from this post, he paved the way for his elder brother and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take charge of the party again. Shahbaz has resigned amid internal discord in the party.

In his letter to the PML-N general secretary, Shehbaz referred to the events of 2017, which resulted in Nawaz being ousted from the prime minister's office and losing the party chairmanship. Shahbaz (72) said in the letter that his brother had handed over the responsibility of the post of party president during adverse circumstances and said that he performed this duty with full dedication and seriousness. Nawaz (74) returned home in October last year after living in self-exile in London for almost four years.

Internal discord is believed to be the reason

Shahbaz's resignation comes amid infighting in the party in Punjab province and at the federal level. Several prominent leaders, including Rana Sanaullah, Javed Latif, Senator Javed Abbasi and former Senator Asif Saeed Kirmani, had publicly criticized the party leadership. After this he has resigned from his post. Now his elder brother and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif will take over the responsibility of this post. Before the elections, Nawaz Sharif was the only contender for the post of PM, but due to the conditions of the Pakistani Army, he had to distance himself from the race for this post.
