India-Russia Relation: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told Russian President Vladimir Putin that peace talks cannot succeed amidst bombs, guns and bullets and no solution to any conflict is possible in a war zone. The two leaders held talks against the backdrop of the Ukraine conflict. In his televised opening statement, Modi assured Putin and the global community that India is in favour of peace and is ready to contribute to ending the conflict in Ukraine. PM Modi said, "Peace is very important for the new generation for a bright future. Peace talks cannot succeed amidst bombs, guns and bullets."PM Modi mentioned informal talksPrime Minister Modi also mentioned the informal talks with Putin on Monday and said that listening to the Russian President brought hope. Modi said, "If people lose their lives, then every person who believes in humanity is saddened. On top of that, if innocent children are killed, if innocent children die, then it is heart-breaking and very painful. He said, "In our meeting yesterday, we listened to each other's views on the issue of Ukraine and I also put before you the aspirations of the 'Global South' for peace and stability."Russia played a friendly rolePrime Minister Modi also mentioned Russia's help to India in the energy sector. He said that when the world was facing a shortage of food items, fuel and fertilizers, we did not let our farmers face any problem and our friendship with Russia played a role in this. Modi said, "We want our cooperation with Russia to increase further so that our farmers are benefited."People will benefit from strong relationsThe Indian Prime Minister said that strong relations between the two countries will greatly benefit the people. The PM also expressed concern about the challenges of terrorism. He said, "India has been facing the challenge of terrorism for about 40 years. I condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations." Modi said the world has faced several challenges in the last five years, first due to COVID-19 and then due to several conflicts.
