Just a day after Ponting's claim, Indian Board Secretary Jai Shah has put the truth in front of everyone. Shah did not directly name Ponting nor called him a liar, but in a statement given to the media, Shah said that neither the BCCI nor he himself approached any former Australian cricketer to become the coach of Team India. Shah simply said that whatever such news was spread in the media was completely wrong. He made it clear that finding the head coach of Team India is a detailed and precise process.

Jai Shah also told how the person will be made the coach of Team India. The BCCI Secretary said that the Board wants to appoint such a person as coach, who has a deep understanding of Indian cricket and has come up from different levels. He also made it clear that to become the coach of the Indian team, it is necessary to have understanding and knowledge of Indian domestic cricket. While clarifying the thinking of the board, Shah said that it is most important to raise the level of Team India further.

Not only Ponting, but his former Australian teammate Justin Langer had also hinted that he too had been approached but he was not ready for it.
