This is his third visit to Manipur and first as the Leader of Opposition in the Northeast.

23 lakh people affected by floods in Assam

The situation in Assam is bad due to floods. A total of 23 lakh people have been affected by floods in 29 districts. The Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark in Nimatighat, Tezpur, Goalpara and Dhubri. Its tributaries are also flowing above the danger mark at many places. Thousands of hectares of crops have been submerged due to the floods. Rahul Gandhi will visit the flood relief camp in Lakhipur and talk to the people taking shelter there.

Will meet violence-affected people in Manipur

After Assam, Rahul Gandhi will visit Manipur. He will talk to violence-affected people in Jiribam, Churachandpur and Imphal. Manipur has been in the grip of sporadic violence for about a year. The recent incident of violence took place on June 6. Rahul had also raised the issue of Manipur violence in the Lok Sabha. Rahul targeted PM Modi and said that PM Modi went everywhere but did not go to Manipur.

Violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, 2023

More than 200 people were killed and thousands were rendered homeless in Manipur after ethnic violence on May 3 last year. This violence broke out when a tribal solidarity march was organized in the hill districts of the state in protest against the demand to include the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST). Many efforts were made to calm the ethnic violence in Manipur but the matter is still serious.
