Rahul is from Rae Bareli, will resign from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi will contest the election

Rahul Gandhi News: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has announced to leave Wayanad seat of Kerala. In the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad as well as Rae Bareli. He has also won both the seats. In such a situation, now Rahul Gandhi has kept the Rae Bareli seat with himself and has left Wayanad. The party has decided that Priyanka Gandhi will contest for the first time from Wayanad seat in the by-election.

On leaving the Wayanad seat, Rahul Gandhi said that I have an emotional connection with Rae Bareli and Wayanad. I was the MP of Wayanad in the last five years. All the people there, people of every party gave me love. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. Priyanka Gandhi will contest from Wayanad, but I will also keep going there in between.

Will fulfill the promise made regarding Wayanad: Rahul

He further said that we will fulfill the promise we have made regarding Wayanad. We have an old relationship with Rae Bareli. I am very happy that I will represent them again. This was not an easy decision for me because I have connections with both the places. My doors will always be open for the people of Wayanad.

At the same time, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said in a press conference that Rahul Gandhi ji has won from two places. Under the law, he has to choose one seat and vacate one. Tomorrow is the last date, today we have had a meeting. Rahul Gandhi should choose Rae Bareli seat. There is a connection from there, have been fighting for generations. The party has decided that Rahul Gandhi will remain an MP from Rae Bareli and Priyanka Gandhi will contest the by-election from there.

Rahul contested from Wayanad in 2019 too

Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad seat for the first time in 2019 and he also won. Then Rahul Gandhi had to face defeat at the hands of BJP leader Smriti Irani in Amethi. After the defeat in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi remained an MP from Wayanad seat. Now in the 2024 elections, Rahul once again contested from two seats. One of these seats was Wayanad and the other was Rae Bareli. This time Rahul was successful in winning both the seats. Rahul has got a bigger victory in Rae Bareli than in Wayanad.

Rae Bareli has been the traditional seat of the Gandhi family

Earlier, the Rae Bareli seat was with the Congress and Sonia Gandhi was the MP. Just before the 2024 elections, Sonia Gandhi separated herself from electoral politics and was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. Sonia Gandhi was elected MP from Rae Bareli five times. Till 2019, the Rae Bareli seat was with Sonia Gandhi. Even before Sonia Gandhi, the Gandhi family dominated the Rae Bareli seat. This is the reason why the Rae Bareli seat is considered the traditional seat of the Gandhi family.
