PM Modi Bhutan Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bhutan is going to deepen the friendship between the two countries. Now the day is not far when rail service will start between India and Bhutan. For this, an important agreement has been signed between the two countries. PM Modi and Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay signed several important agreements between India and Bhutan. This has dealt a big blow to India's enemy China. The two countries on Friday signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in the fields of energy, trade, digital connectivity, space and agriculture and finalized an agreement on rail connectivity between the two countries.The MoUs were exchanged here in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay during the two-day state visit of PM Modi. "Prime Minister Modi thanked Prime Minister Tobgay for the warm welcome he received," India's External Affairs Ministry said in a statement here. The statement said the two leaders discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and ' 'Agreed to further enhance cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, agriculture, environment and forestry and tourism.' The Ministry of External Affairs said that India and Bhutan have long-term and unique relations. "Ahead of the meeting, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and the Prime Minister of Bhutan, the two sides exchanged several MoUs on energy, trade, digital connectivity, space, agriculture and youth connectivity," the statement said.Agreement reached on rail connectivity between India and BhutanAdditionally, the two sides have "agreed and signed an MoU" on rail connectivity between India and Bhutan, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said here. The statement said the MoU provides for two proposed rail links between India and Bhutan, namely the Kokrajhar-Gelephu rail link and the Banarhat-Samtse rail link and the modalities for their implementation. According to this, the MoU on cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and energy conservation measures aims to assist Bhutan in enhancing energy efficiency in the domestic sector by promoting the ‘Star Labeling’ program developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.The MoU on Cooperation in relation to Sports and Youth Affairs will help in furthering the relations between the sports agencies of both the sides and organizing sports activities/events will help in furthering the people-to-people relations between India and Bhutan. According to the statement, an agreement has been reached on cooperation related to sharing of reference standards, pharmacopeia, vigilance and testing of medicinal products. Accordingly, a Joint Plan of Action on Space Cooperation (JPOA) provides a concrete framework to further develop our space cooperation through a number of programmes, training etc.
