Haryana Election 2024 - Railways accepted the resignation of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia
Haryana Election 2024 : The Indian Railways on Monday accepted the resignations of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia. Both wrestlers had resigned from their railway jobs before joining the Congress on Friday. Immediately after joining the Congress, the party gave Vinesh Phogat a ticket for the Haryana Assembly elections from Julana, while Bajrang Punia was included in its farmers' wing.
The acceptance of her resignation has provided significant relief to Vinesh Phogat, as it clears the path for her to contest the elections. Had her resignation not been accepted, her participation in the electoral battle could have been jeopardized. According to the law, if someone holds a government position and wants to contest elections, they must first resign and obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department.
The NOC must be submitted with the nomination documents, only then will the returning officer accept the application. The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, and the nomination process is currently ongoing. The last date for nominations is September 12, making this a timely relief for Vinesh Phogat.
Vinesh Phogat gets ticket from JulanaThe Congress has fielded Vinesh Phogat from her in-laws' area, Julana. The Congress has been waiting for a win on this seat for a long time, having last won it in 2005. To revive its dwindling image, the party has played a major political move by nominating Vinesh Phogat as its candidate. Vinesh will face off against the current Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) MLA Amarjeet Dhanda.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, JJP secured victory here. Amarjeet Dhanda defeated BJP's Parminder Singh Dhull by a margin of 24,193 votes. Dhanda received 61,942 votes, while Dhull came in second with 37,749 votes.
