New Delhi : Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to many opposition leaders to know the views of the opposition regarding the presidential candidate. According to media reports, Defense Minister and BJP leader Rajnath Singh spoke to opposition leaders Mamata Banerjee, Mallikarjun Kharge and Akhilesh Yadav before the meeting of the opposition leaders today to know their views on the presidential election candidates. The BJP has appointed JP Nadda and Rajnath Singh to hold talks with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), opposition parties and allies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). Apart from this, BJP leader Rajnath Singh also spoke to Naveen Patnaik of BJD and Nitish Kumar of JD(U) on the Presidential election.Let us tell you that before the presidential election, the opposition is holding meetings to field its joint candidate. In this sequence, leaders of about 17 political parties attended this meeting of opposition parties convened by Banerjee to reach a consensus on fielding a joint candidate against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the presidential election on Wednesday.Leaders of several parties on Wednesday urged Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar to be the United Opposition's presidential candidate at a meeting of opposition parties convened by West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee. He once again turned down the offer.Leaders of Congress, Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Left parties attended the meeting while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) thought it appropriate to keep a distance from it.
