India - Refuse to ban Mirzapur third season Supreme Court said How Can Be Pre-Screening Committee For Web Series
Mirzapur : The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stay the third season of the web series 'Mirzapur'. Along with this, the court asked the petitioner to file a better petition. The court also wondered how there could be a 'pre-screening' committee for a web series. The Court said that it has always been felt that 'pre-censorship' is not permissible. Along with this, the top court also wondered how there can be a 'pre-screening' committee for web series, movies or other programs released directly on the online platform.A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi was hearing a petition filed by Sujit Kumar Singh, a resident of Mirzapur. In this petition, a request has been made to constitute a 'pre-screening' committee for web series, movies or other programs to be released directly on the online platform."How can there be a pre-screening committee for a web series? There is a special law. Unless you say that OTT (over-the-top) is also a part of it (of the law)... you have to say that the existing law applies to OTT as well. (After this) many questions will arise because the transmission is from other countries. The bench directed the petitioner to withdraw the petition, saying, "OTT satellite broadcasting takes place from other countries even if the audience is here. Post-show redressal mechanism is different. Your petition should be more detailed. Better file (petition)". " The top court also refused to stay the third season of the popular web series 'Mirzapur'. This series is currently in production.
