Cricket - Shane Warne Would Have Done Terrific Job As England Coach says Ricky Ponting
Cricket | Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has paid a heartfelt tribute to spin legend Shane Warne, saying he would have played his role brilliantly because of his immense knowledge of the game if he had been the coach of England. England had sacked head coach Chris Silverwood from his position after a humiliating 0-4 loss to Australia in the Ashes. Warne had expressed his desire to coach England a few weeks before his sudden demise in Thailand. The legendary spinner holds the record for taking the second most wickets in Test cricket. Warne took 708 wickets in the longest format of cricket and 293 in ODIs.Ricky Ponting told fellow broadcaster Isha Guha in 'The ICC Review', 'His (Warne's) passion and knowledge of the game was amazing. He had all the qualities to be a great coach. If someone like Warne had joined the England cricket team, I think he would have done a great job.He said, 'It is a big loss to the sports world. Whether he had done some coaching or even the way he used to talk, the things he used to tell us through his commentary, I think we all will miss him.' Guha himself had earlier said that Warne had expressed his desire to become England's coach in conversation with him.
