Sisters from kanjarbhat community divorced for failing 'virginity test'

Maharashtra: A surprising case has come up in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. Here, two sisters have alleged that after marriage, they were forcibly conducted a virginity test and after failing in this, the Jat Panchayat there ordered a divorce. However, when the matter came to light, the police started action and registered a case against the victim's husband, mother-in-law.

Police have registered a case against the husband of the two victim sisters, their mother-in-law and members of the so-called Jat Panchayat. In this case, Kolhapur Police has registered a case on Thursday evening. According to the police, an FIR was lodged against the accused under various sections of IPC and the Maharashtra Anti-social Boycott Act based on the complaint made by the two sisters.

According to the complaint, the two victims are members of the Kanjarbhat community of Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. He was offered marriage by two men from his community. After this, they got married on 27 November 2020. After marriage, the two sisters were taken to separate bedrooms. There, they were subjected to virginity testing according to the purported ritual of the society. The complaint states that there is a tradition of such testing in this community.

According to the police, the complaint states that one of the men married to both sisters works in the army, while the other person works in a private institution.
